Priorities

What are my priorities for Ward 4?

Based on talking to Ward 4 residents over the past 4 years, there have been many topics that I have been able to help with and achieve positive results. I have grouped these into 4 priorities that I will continually use to make Ward 4 and the Town of Newmarket a great place to live, work, and play!

  1. Be Accessible and Responsive to you

  2. Healthy Communities

  3. Safe Communities

  4. Responsible Spending

Accessible & Responsive

I am your ALL-THE-TIME representative. Over the past 4 years I have responded to residents at all hours of the day during the week and on weekends. This is not just a full time position, it is an ALL-THE-TIME position and I have demonstrated that time and time again for the residents of Ward 4.

Please continue to feel free to communicate with me in any way you feel comfortable. In addition to phone, email and text, I have created other ways for you to stay informed with what is happening around the Ward and Town. These include developing a website, sending out an e-newsletter to Ward residents, using social media such as Facebook and Instagram, and holding Ward 4 meetings. In response to feedback from Ward 4 residents, these platforms have been well received and I will continue to make them even better for Ward 4 residents. Of course, you can talk with me in person at any of our town’s amazing events. Every question, concern or comment you have is important to me. Below are additional ways I plan on communicating and connecting with my Ward 4 neighbours. I want to get to know you, and for you to know me.

·      Continue to respond promptly to concerns of the residents of Ward 4 as a rapid response is essential for quick resolution

·      Hold ward meetings throughout the year to keep Ward 4 residents updated and informed

·      Organize annual neighbourhood events (community BBQ, Ward 4 clean-up events, street parties)

·      Created e-newsletter to provide updated information with what is happening in the Ward and Town

·      Improved communication accessibility by developing a website and creating a social media presence to inform and engage Ward 4 residents

Healthy Communities

Green spaces and sporting venues bring communities and people together.  Many communities today recognize the importance of creating a more livable community by enhancing local recreation opportunities. As your councillor, I will continue to strive to bring recreational opportunities closer to home by providing a NEW all-season community Sports Pad for skating in the winter and activities in the summer, and an additional outdoor ‘backyard’ skating rink within Ward 4, which allows us to walk or ride to.

·      Bring a new all-season community Sports Pad to Ward 4!

·      Install shade canopies in Ward 4 parks

·      Hold a Ward 4 community clean-up event for free removal of household items and debris

·      Increase the number of trees for healthy living

·      Protect our environmental woodlots and natural heritage areas

·      Increase recreation opportunities in Ward 4 with the addition of a community ‘backyard’ skating rink

·      Support affordable housing and housing options for everyone

·      Promote healthy senior activities and events

Safe Communities

As a parent and resident of a growing community I recognize the need for safety. I believe it is the right of all residents to feel safe in their community and neighbourhood. Together, from residents reaching out to me, we have been able to address traffic, speeding, and safety concerns in areas all across Ward 4.

·      Addressed speeding concerns with the purchase and installation of 2 dedicated speed boards located in areas identified by Ward 4 residents

·      Installed speed calming bollards in collaboration with Ward 4 residents feedback

·      Introduced a motion recommending a stop sign be installed on Penn Ave near Maple Leaf Public School

·      Increased pedestrian safety by upgrading the cross walk line markings and alignment at the intersection of George St and Kingston Rd

·      Modified the timing of the light signals for pedestrian safety at the intersections of Main St. N & London Rd as well as Davis Dr. and Longford Rd

·      Advancement of enhanced energy efficient lighting of our walkways and paths – let’s Light the Way!

·      Ongoing collaboration with YRP to promote safe driving initiatives

·      Met with School Parent Councils to address traffic concerns around our schools

Responsible Spending

·      Demonstrated budget transparency and accountability by undergoing a ‘line by line’ assessment of each item in order to determine efficient use of budget dollars

·      Participated in the Town of Newmarket REV- IT-UP project - a financial ‘deep dive’, resulting in increased financial efficiencies and accountability

·      Committed to keeping our property taxes below the GTA average

·      Supported local community businesses though collaboration with the Newmarket Chamber of Commerce and the Shop Local campaign
